But one year after he and Julie Chrisley were pardoned and released from prison, Todd is making one thing clear: returning to television is not as simple as turning the cameras back on.

The Chrisley family became household names through Chrisley Knows Best, the USA Network reality series that ran for 10 seasons and turned Todd, Julie, Savannah, Chase, Grayson, and the rest of the family into familiar faces for millions of viewers. The show mixed luxury, parenting battles, sibling humor, and Todd’s famously controlling personality into a format that kept fans watching for years.

So when Todd and Julie returned home after their legal ordeal, many viewers expected a major reality TV comeback almost immediately. After all, public curiosity around the family was enormous. Fans wanted to know how Todd and Julie were adjusting to life after prison, how the family dynamic had changed, and whether the Chrisleys could reclaim their place in the reality television world.

But according to Todd, the timing and the format still are not right.

During a recent appearance on Savannah Chrisley’s Unlocked podcast, Todd addressed comments he had previously made on his Two Sons and Me podcast, where he seemed to suggest he was finished with television. Savannah pressed him on whether that meant he was walking away from reality TV entirely. Todd clarified that he was not necessarily saying goodbye to television forever. Instead, he explained that TV is no longer his top priority, and he has no interest in repeating the exact formula that made Chrisley Knows Best successful.

For Todd, the issue is not whether he wants to be on television. The issue is whether the next project reflects his family’s current reality in an honest way.

That distinction matters. The Chrisleys are not returning to the same world they left behind. Their legal troubles, prison sentences, public criticism, and eventual pardon changed how many people view the family. The glamorous, comedic tone of Chrisley Knows Best may no longer fit the chapter they are living now.

Todd appears to understand that. He has said he does not want to come back in the same format as before. Instead, he wants a project that gives viewers a more genuine look at the family’s everyday life, including the difficult, emotional, and complicated moments that come with rebuilding after such a public fall.

The family did make a partial return to television through Lifetime’s The Chrisleys: Back to Reality, an eight-part docuseries that was originally focused on how the Chrisley children were coping while Todd and Julie were still behind bars. However, the story changed dramatically when the couple was released before filming was complete. That meant Todd and Julie appeared in the later part of the series, giving fans a first look at their post-prison lives.

Still, that was not the full-scale Chrisley comeback many people expected.

Todd and Julie also appeared on The Masked Singer, where they competed together as the Croissants. But that kind of appearance is very different from opening up their family life for a reality series. A singing competition costume reveal is controlled, light, and temporary. A new family show would be far more personal, especially at a time when public opinion remains divided.

Todd’s main concern now seems to be authenticity. He has made it clear that he does not want staged scenes or manufactured storylines. If the family returns to television, he wants major life events to be shown as they actually happen. That includes future milestones in Savannah’s life, such as marriage or motherhood, if those moments occur while cameras are present.

His message is simple: if viewers are going to follow the Chrisleys again, they should see the real version of the family, not a carefully arranged performance.

Money may also be part of the delay. Reports in 2025 suggested that Todd was seeking a deal worth at least $5 million for a television return, while network executives were reportedly hesitant to meet that figure. That creates another layer of uncertainty. The Chrisleys still have name recognition, but networks also have to consider whether audiences are ready to embrace them again after everything that happened.

Public perception remains one of the biggest challenges. While loyal fans continue to support Todd, Julie, and Savannah, critics have argued that the family should be careful about how they re-enter the spotlight. A comeback built too quickly around sympathy, glamour, or old reality TV habits could easily backfire.

That may be why Todd is moving cautiously. He seems to know that the next project cannot simply be Chrisley Knows Best 2.0. The family’s story has changed, and the television format has to change with it.

For now, Todd Chrisley is not ruling out a return. He is simply saying he is not ready to return under the wrong conditions.

That leaves fans waiting. A new Chrisley series may still happen, but it likely will not arrive until Todd believes the concept, the timing, the money, and the emotional tone are all aligned.
